Today the invading Filipina Army moved on to conquer other parts of China, but before they left there was a mass trip to the hair salon. Actually, only two of us ended up going. First we had to pick a place, which is a bit difficult when there are six places in the first two blocks alone. We weeded out he obvious brothels and chose one of the larger ones. Chinese hair salons are strange places. Not only do they shampoo your hair, they also give you a back and head and arm massage. And clean out your ears. I don't think my shampooer liked me much, though, since the only time she smiled at me was after stabbing me in the ear with a q-tip and hearing me yelp. Then came time for the actual cutting. I explained to the guy in English what sort of haircut I wanted and he explained it to the person who actually cut my hair. There was some confusion over this, because the guy who spoke English was not cutting either of our hair, and there was a minor skirmish between the various guys because none of them wanted to cut my hair. Judith's hair is similar to Chinese hair, so they didn't mind cutting hers. But one guy was finally assigned to do the cutting and failed to get out of it. So he started cutting. Within a minute five other guys were watching him, tugging at my hair and wondering if that was my natural color. In my bad Chinese, I assured them that it was., but I get the impression that they didn't believe me because my ends were a different color than my roots. The cutting took an inordinate amount of time, since everyone had suggestions to offer, but eventually they were done, leaving me to stare at the mirror in disbelief. I now know what a haircut done by committee looks like. Thank goodness hair grows quickly. At least my students will be amused tomorrow.

XD Poor Kitsu! That story really made me laugh, though. . . I hope it grows out quickly!

If it made my neechan laugh during her finals, then my hair's sacrifice was not in vain.

I take it this is the first time you've gotten your hair cut in China? Wowww. It must've been trailing three feet down your back, like that guy's beard at the end of Hi no Tori who became immortal and had to wait through like a year (or was it a billion? Hard to remember) of evolution, evidently without shaving.

It was two life cycles of the world... one where sluglike creatures rose in the place of humanity and eventually annihilated themselves, and then again with the humans. Tezuka is kinda depressing.

Hehe...

This kind of story is why you need an electric camera. Or a friend in China with one, anyway.

No, this kind of story is why I try not to mention the digital camera I already have.
