The only taxi ride I've had was from the airport to the hotel, and the driver spent the entire time yelling at me because it wasn't a long enough trip and also he didn't know where it was. It's kind of put me off taxis for a while. But the subway, while somewhat unreliable, is still pretty nice compared to Boston's, New York's, or Chicago's. The reason I took the shuttle bus to the airport the next day was more because there was no subway station anywhere nearby, and the shuttle was free.
I completely agree with the 酸奶, 饺子, and 羊肉串 love. I also like 炸酱面 a lot. And I don't mind the Sichuan thing, because I love basically any food with 花椒.
