Another story about Wei.
Mar. 16th, 2009 02:09 pmThanks for the suggestions, everyone! For now I'll probably stick with "Lord," since most people seemed okay with it. For now, here's another story about Wei.
Important stuff:
-Lord Wen, sovereign of Wei, and all-around great guy. Keeps his appointments. We'll be hearing more about him.
-Tian Zifang, Wen's adviser
-the bells, a bunch of hanging bronze bells of different sizes and tones. Here's a picture.
Lord Wen of Wei and Tian Zifang were drinking wine while they assessed music. Lord Wen said, "Are the bell tones off-key? The left one is high." Tian Zifang laughed. Lord Wen asked, "Why are you laughing?" Zifang replied, "I have heard that if a lord is wise, he takes pleasure in his officials, and if he is not wise, he takes pleasure in sound. Now my lord is judging the tone, and I fear my lord's deafness to his officials." Lord Wen said, "Well. I will respectfully hear your suggestion."
