May. 16th, 2006 08:52 pmSome days, teaching just seems surreal. Like when I walk into a classroom and a seven year-old Chinese boy comes up to me singing Edelweiss, from the Sound of Music. And then two more students join in, then another three, until half the kids are surrounding me and singing. If only they could carry a tune. And emember the last few words- I had to help them finish. Still,it's not often one gets to feel like they're in a musical.
I also had some fun with stealth baking yesterday. Well, not exactly baking, since it didn't involve an oven. But I made peanut butter chocolate bars, and then realized that I needed to get rid of them before I gained three kilos in a week. So I brought them into the staffroom and set them out when no one was looking, with a note saying "please help yourself." It was fun, especially since people think Sara brought them. I'm thinking of doing this every Monday.
Teaching is being stressful this week, but it should get better soon. And I'm down to seven Tuesdays to go!
